Wayne Bennett is an Australian former rugby player and a professional rugby league coach who is the head coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the NRL. He is the all-time leader in NRL games coached with a staggering 840 to date, including a record 521 wins and seven premierships.

Wayne James Bennett was born on 1 January 1950 in Allora, Queensland, Australia. He is an Australian by nationality and belongs to the Caucasian ethnicity. His birth sign is Capricorn. He was born to an abusive alcoholic father and mother, Patricia Bennett. His father deserted the family when he was only eleven years old. He grew up with five siblings - Bob, Dwight, Michelle, and Gretta Bennett.

At the age of 15, Wayne started to work as a police officer. Later, he developed an interest in rugby and played in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership for Past Brothers, Ipswich, and Souths. He was a talented goal-kicker and wing. He represented Queensland nine times between 1971 and 1973.

Wayne started coaching in Ipswich in 1976. Later, he moved to Brothers and Souths of Brisbane Rugby League Premiership. He went on to coach several teams like Brisbane Broncos, ST. George Illawarra Dragon, Canberra Raiders, and Newcastle Knights. In 2015, he re-joined the Brisbane Bronco.

In 2016, Wayne became the head coach for the England team. In 2018, he was officially sacked as a coach of the Brisbane Broncos. Later, he became the head coach for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2019. He also guided Queensland to a miracle series win in the 2020 State of Origin series in a year.

Wayne has been involved in the coaching career since 1976. With more than four decades of coaching experience, he is one of the highest-paid coaches in the NRL. As of 2021, he has accrued a whopping net worth of $10 million.
