Corby Schaub, Ryan Bingham's former guitarist, produced the EP, which was released on November 19, 2013.
McCollum's debut album, The Limestone Kid, was produced at Cedar Creek Recording in Austin and features Americana, Texas country, and folk-rock influences.
On July 7, 2017, McCollum released an EP titled Probably Wrong: Session One. It was his first Billboard chart appearance, debuting at No. 6 on Heatseekers Albums, No. 14 on the Independent Albums Chart, and No. 15 on the Country Album Sales chart, with 2,000 copies sold in the first week in the United States.
On June 27, 2019, McCollum signed with Universal Music Group. "Pretty Heart" was his first single with the label. McCollum's Hollywood Gold EP was released on October 16, 2020.
